What You Charge Customers

5% GST only. Alberta has no provincial sales tax, making invoicing simple. A $150/hr rate = $157.50 to customer including GST.

GST Registration

Required if your revenue exceeds $30,000 in any 12-month period. Register through CRA's Business Registration Online at canada.ca. Below $30K, registration is optional but allows you to claim input tax credits on purchases.

Why Alberta Is Advantageous

With no provincial tax, Alberta operators effectively keep 8-10% more per invoice compared to Ontario (13% HST) or Quebec (14.975%). This can mean thousands more in annual profit on the same gross revenue.
