Where Our Data Comes From
We collect sold prices — not asking prices — from major equipment auction houses across North America. These are real transactions where equipment actually changed hands, giving you an accurate picture of market value.
For active listings, we aggregate from Canadian marketplaces so you can compare what sellers are asking against what similar equipment has actually sold for at auction.
How Deal Score Works
Collect
We gather auction results with year, hours, specs, and sale price.
Analyze
A machine learning model finds pricing patterns across thousands of sales.
Score
We compare listing prices to predicted market value and assign a score.
The model considers year, hours, make/model, equipment specs (horsepower, operating capacity, lift type), and regional factors. It's trained on tens of thousands of actual sales, so the predictions reflect real market behavior — not theoretical depreciation curves.
What We Don't Do
- — We don't use dealer asking prices in our valuations. Only verified sold prices.
- — We don't show Deal Scores when we have insufficient data for a model. You'll see "Not enough data" instead of a guess.
- — We exclude obvious outliers like charity auctions, damaged units, and incomplete sales from our calculations.
Limitations
Our data is a guide, not a guarantee. Prices vary based on condition, attachments, service history, and local market conditions that we can't always capture. A Deal Score tells you how a price compares to similar equipment — it doesn't account for a machine that's been meticulously maintained or one that's been run hard.
- • Attachments — Buckets, forks, or tracks can add thousands to a machine's value, but auction data rarely breaks out attachment pricing.
- • Condition beyond hours — A well-maintained 3,000-hour machine can be worth more than an abused 1,500-hour one.
- • Dealer vs. auction pricing — Dealers typically price 15-25% higher than auction results (reconditioning, warranty, convenience).
Always inspect equipment in person and verify service records before purchasing.
